Full Details Of Golden Ears Camping Trip Below: MUST READ

Assumption Young Adults is excited to announce our Summer Camping Trip this coming July 26-27! We will be heading to Golden Ears summit, where we plan to camp overnight and have Mass near the peak.

NOTE: Mass will be dependent on whether or not a priest is able to come with us all the way to the top. In case this isn't possible, we will head down as early as possible the next day to ensure people are able to attend Mass elsewhere. We will let you know as soon as possible.

This event has a limited space, only 20 will be able to register. First come first serve. Sign up is $7 to cover BC parks registration fees.

Please read the full details on the event page before registering.

IMPORTANT!

When camping in the backcountry, it is important that you are prepared. Please carefully go over the packing list.

Keep in mind that you will be carrying everything with you while we hike up and down the steep and difficult terrain. You must be able to carry your backpack comfortably for hours. Ensure that you have done a “test pack” with everything you plan to bring prior to hiking day. A fully loaded backpacking pack should not weigh more than 20% of your body weight (If you weigh 150 lb your pack should be no heavier than 30 lb).

We would advise you to try to keep your pack to maximum 25lbs with water. 1 litre of water is 2.2lbs or 1KG. The weight will be noticeable with this much elevation.

Below is the recommended packing list:

FAQ's

Will We Be Doing The Full Golden Ears Peak?

We will only be hiking to panorama lookout point which is 250m in elevation shorter than the full hike. There we will be setting up camp. From there, it is each individual persons choice to continue the last 250m in elevation to the summit or now. It is expected to last 10 hours as a slow to moderate pace.

Can We Meet At Golden Ears?

Yes AND No. Technically you can meet us there, but there is ZERO RECEPTION at Golden Ears and that will make it difficult for you to find us. It is recommend you meet us at our TBD meeting point so we may all car pool together.

Is Food Provided?

No. It is recommended that you bring both dehydrated meals and snacks. Dehydrated meals are great light weight and calorie packed options. See above for more details on food.

Do we need to bring water?

Yes. It is recommended to start the hike with at least 2L of water. From there, we will be able to fill up on water as we go. That being said, you need to either have a gravity water filter or purifying tablets as water is not potable from the streams as it is.
